I am delighted that Sebastian’s sons have been able to actively participate in this event.
2018 is a special year for us. It is Las Brisas’s Fiftieth Anniversary this year. In celebrating this important milestone, we want both to look back and to look forward. This first event of our anniversary year, in part is looking back, to celebrate the life of the Club’s first Professional – Sebastian de Miguel.
Sebastian had a successful playing career, with 10 professional wins, including the Spanish Open 3 times and the Portuguese Open once. Sebastian had 4 ‘top ten’ finishes in the British Open during the 1960s, and played in the Masters 3 times. Sebastian represented Spain in 11 World Cups. Sebastian was the Professional at Las Brisas from 1985, and had Honorary Membership until his death in 2006.
Importantly, this special year also give us the opportunity to look forward and continue to try to improve. We can now benefit from a fully refurbished golf course, with the help of Kyle Philips’ redesign. We must continue to strive for excellence in the overall Club facilities and all services to our Members. On a golfing front, in the future, we must commit to the redesign of our Practice Area and the creation of a Members’ Performance Centre, as well as gym facilities.
Getting back to the Pro-Am, it can only be as good as its Pros and the players. We had 184 players, with 46 Pros leading their teams. I would like to personally thank all participants here this evening. We would not have had such a great competition without you. Many people have travelled a long distance to support Las Brisas; it is very much appreciated by the Club and our Members.
On your behalf, I want to thank the various people who have ensured this event has been successful. Pablo Pascual from the Spanish PGA has helped manage the detailed daily playing matters. I think that the PGA has helped elevate this annual event to a new level of quality and enjoyment.
Ricardo has led on all golfing competition details. Rafa, our Course Manager, and his team has set up the course as a good test of everyone’s playing skills; Paul, our General Manager, has had overall management responsibility for successful delivery of this event. Annie, Marianna, and Kerrie have driven the detailed development and planning of the event, including ensuring we have had excellent breakfasts, brunches, and the buffet this evening. Many thanks to you all!
Finally, special thanks to all sponsors:
